Book Apps You Need

Hello and welcome to The Bookish Library!

I want to start off this blog with some apps I highly recommend to everyone. Especially if you're an avid bookworm like myself.

-Libby

This app is a FREE digital library. You just sign in with your library card number and you can access free ebooks and audiobooks straight from your device.  You can either read on the app or, if you’re like me, they have an option where you can choose to have it sent to your Kindle.

*If you don't already have a library card you can get one in person or online from your local library.

-Kindle

The Kindle app from Amazon lets you pick up where you left off on any other device. Before I got my Kindle Paperwhite I was reading on my iPad and phone. It was so nice to be able to pick up right where I was when switching devices. And it still works when I go from my Kindle to my iPad/phone and vice versa.

Amazon has a subscription called Kindle Unlimited (KU). KU is a paid library app that allows you to access all the books in the KU library (First-time KU subscribers get 3 months free during Prime Month). I have bought this subscription several times. They offer monthly, 6 month, and yearly subscriptions. It is absolutely worth it and has saved me a lot of money on buying books.

Amazon Prime members, did you know you get 1-2 FREE books each month? Honestly, I only recently learned about this offer. If you're like me, here's how the Amazon Monthly First Reads program works; Amazon picks out a handful of new ebooks and offers them to Prime Members beginning the first of each month. Prime Members then can pick ONE of the options given (sometimes 2, like during Prime Month). That ebook will automatically go to your Kindle library for you to read immediately. On top of the free book(s), all the ebooks included in First Reads are available for Prime Members to purchase for only $4.99/each. (Usually, they will also end up on KU as well.)

Amazon Prime Members also get access to Prime Reading, which is basically KU with fewer books. However, even with fewer books, there is still a massive amount you can choose from and Amazon is always adding more.

-Goodreads

This app allows you to add friends, join clubs, rate books, share your ebook highlights & notes, as well as track your progress and to-be-read (TBR) list(s). They also host giveaways for ebooks and physical books.

-Likewise

Searching for a book you read once upon a time, but you only slightly remember the plot? Or perhaps you're just looking for your next book suggestion? I suggest Likewise. It's a community where you can discuss your favorite books, movies, TV shows, podcasts, etc. You can also ask for help finding books, recommendations for books in your genre(s), and recommend your favorite book(s) to others.
